Product Description

Factor 55 introduces a new line of Aluminum Hawse Fairleads. The 1.0 and 1.5 fairleads are CNC machined from 1 and 1.5 inch thick USA 6000 series aluminum bar. The industry standard fairlead thickness is .75 inches thick.

The thicker aluminum bar results in a larger outer fillet radius for the synthetic rope to slide against. This results in less stress on the rope fibers during high angular pulls, increasing the life of your synthetic rope. The 1.0 and 1.5 fairleads are the industryu2019s first Hawse fairleads compatible with larger u00bd inch diameter rope tube thimbles.

The rope slot height opening is taller to allow the larger u00bdu201d tube thimbles to pass through. There is also a machined outer corner chamfer to reduce rope stress for those than plan on using the winch as a front suspension u201csuck downu201d device. These fairleads come in a durable MIL-A-8625F TYPE III gun metal gray hard anodized finish with a laser engravedu00a0logo.

What is the best surface finish for Hawse aluminum fairleads?u00a0 Without a doubt it is a Type III hard anodized coating. Notu00a0cosmetic Type II anodized finishes,u00a0notu00a0powder coated, andu00a0notu00a0raw or polished aluminum.u00a0 Why?u00a0 Because a hard coating can resist the abrasion damage from a dirty/gritty synthetic winch rope rubbing across it.u00a0u00a0 Especially during extreme side pulls where rope fiber stresses are extremely high.u00a0 A Mil-A-8625 Type III hard anodized finish leaves a .002u201d thicku00a0Al2O3u00a0ceramic coating that is in the top 5 hardest materials known to mankind (See chart under Corundum/Sapphire).u00a0 Not too far away from diamond hardness actually.u00a0 Another valuable material property from hard anodized coatings are theu00a0low coefficients of friction.u00a0 Low friction = lower rope heat.u00a0 Only drawback?u00a0 Hard anodizing is not offered in typical bright and fancy anodized colors.u00a0 All Factor 55 fairleads only come in Mil-A-8625 hard gray finishes. Not fancy, but it is the proper finish to extend the life of your synthetic rope.

Overall Dimension: 12.35u2033 x 3.25u2033

Standard 10u2033 Bolt Mount Spacing

For synthetic winch rope only.

*NOTE- Fairleads DO NOT come with mounting hardware.

*The reason for this is depending on your vehicle, bumper, and fairlead mounting thicknessesu00a0the shank length of the bolts may need to be longer or shorter to prevent the bolts from contacting the body of your winch. u00a0In most cases the mounting bolts that are supplied by your winch manufacturer are adequate in strength and length. u00a0In some cases longer bolts are required and 3/8u2033 Grade 5-Grade 8 bolts in 1.25-1.5u2033 shank length is a good starting point for fitment. u00a07/16u2033 bolts may also be used. u00a0Please contact us for any specific questions.

u00a0WARNING!

Always confirm that the synthetic rope cannot make contact to any sharp edges like the opening in the steel fairlead mounting plate or bumper opening. In some cases it may be required to grind this slot larger. Always sand and deburr this opening after any grinding operation.
